Correlieu Secondary School

School History
Correlieu Secondary School got its start on the drawing boards of a Prince George architect in 1968. After many revisions as a result of input from local teachers, students, parents, community members, and school board officials, a school plan was finalized that would provide for a modern one-storey building to house approximately 550 students in grades 11 and 12. Construction took place during the 1971/72 school year and, in September 1972, the doors opened to greet the first group of students who had previously attended either Cariboo Junior or Quesnel Secondary Schools.

Until Easter of that year, many students were housed in the group of portables that lined the front of the school. Competitions were held and the name "Correlieu" and the motto "A place where friends meet" were born.

After the tragic Cariboo fire in 1978, the community and Board of School Trustees struggled with various ideas and concepts as to what type of school organization to offer the residents of Quesnel. Eventually, the concept of both Correlieu and Quesnel Secondary becoming grade 8 to 12 schools was accepted.

Correlieu has undergone a number of physical changes in the last 30 years; however, the fundamental concept of the school has not changed. The success and achievements of Correlieu are a result of students, teachers, parents, and community members working together on common goals and objectives which are student-focussed.

Correlieu has been, is, and will continue to be a school where students, teachers, and parents strive for excellence in all areas whether it be academics, technical, fine arts, athletics, or other pursuits.
